The problem

What we found.

The property's underground sewer lateral had a collapsed section at a transition between clay and asbestos-cement piping. Root intrusion was also present in the sewer line, creating an ongoing risk of drainage backups. The damaged section required excavation and repair, while additional roots elsewhere in the lateral needed to be addressed.

The solution

What our team did.

Our In Demand Plumbing team removed landscaping as needed and excavated the underground sewer lateral to access the damaged pipe. After exposing the line, our technicians identified a collapsed section at the transition between clay and asbestos-cement piping and completed a targeted spot repair. The excavation was backfilled using Class II aggregate base in accordance with the inspection authority's request. During the work, the team also encountered a deteriorated fence-board area that required temporary removal to provide access. The area was cleaned up and landscaping was put back in place following the repair. Because additional root intrusion remained elsewhere in the sewer lateral, our team performed a separate drain-cleaning service using a chain-style sewer cleaning tool. This cleared additional roots, although root intrusion at pipe joints remained a concern. The customer was advised that recurring backups could occur and that full sewer lateral replacement may be needed in the future.
