80-Gallon Navien Heat Pump Water Heater Installation and Relocation
In Demand Plumbing, Heating & Air replaced an existing gas water heater with an 80-gallon Navien heat pump water heater. The installation included relocating the unit, new copper piping, a thermostatic mixing valve, earthquake bracing, and drainage connections.

The problem
What we found.
The homeowner was upgrading an existing conventional gas water heater to a new energy-efficient 80-gallon Navien heat pump water heater. During installation, our technicians discovered that the new unit was too tall to fit in the original water heater location. The installation required relocating the new water heater within the garage, modifying the existing plumbing connections, and coordinating electrical work to accommodate the new heat pump system.
The solution
What our team did.
In Demand Plumbing, Heating & Air removed the existing gas water heater and installed a new Navien NWP500-80 80-gallon heat pump water heater in a customer-approved location near the garage side door. Our technicians completed the following work: - Removed the existing water heater and disconnected the old plumbing connections. - Relocated the new water heater to accommodate its height and installation requirements. - Installed new copper water supply piping and shutoff valves. - Installed a thermostatic mixing valve and new flexible water supply connections. - Installed reinforced 2×4 wall backing and earthquake safety straps to secure the water heater. - Installed a condensate drain and temperature and pressure relief drain piping routed to the exterior. - Filled the water heater and purged air from the plumbing system. - Checked the plumbing connections for leaks and cleaned the work area. The plumbing installation was completed and prepared for electrical hookup by a scheduled electrician.
